The Ice Bucket Challenge made a grand return on June 29th at Padang Timur field in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, after a 10-year hiatus. Over 300 participants joined the event, organized by MND Malaysia and Asia Television, to show their support and love.

Notable guests included Petaling Jaya Member of Parliament, Lee Chean Chung, Negeri Sembilan’s Rahang assemblyman Desmond Siau Meow Kong, Selangor’s Kuala Kubu Bharu assemblywoman Pang Sock Tao, Asia Television Executive Director Leong Wei Ping, musician Chow Kam Leong, and singer Regine Tai.

Member of Parliament, Lee Chean Chung announced a RM5,000 donation to MND Malaysia, emphasizing his commitment to supporting MND patients and improving treatment infrastructure particularly at Malaysia’s leading hospital, the University of Malaya Medical Center. He also encouraged other treatment centers to improve their infrastructure.

Asia Television Executive Director, Leong Wei Ping, reflected on his 2014 participation in the challenge, noting its significant impact on MND research and patient support.

MND Malaysia Chairman Benny Ng Ah Thiam highlighted that Malaysia sees about 1,000 new MND cases annually. The Challenge was organized within two months, thanks to connections made by Mr. Lee Ket Hin whose wife has had MND for the past seven years.

MND Ambassadors, Tan Shu Hua and Chow Kam Leong, performed “Unfreezing MND,” a song written by Tan Shu Hua. In it, she makes the connection between being frozen physically and the thawing of hearts and willing oneself to live life. It moved many attendees to tears. Tan Shu Hua, diagnosed with MND in 2014, shared her journey and expressed gratitude for the support. Fellow MND fighter Albert Koo Tee Yih spoke about overcoming depression and finding acceptance through his faith.

The event also featured performances of classic hits, leading to a sing-along led by Chow Kam Leong and Regine Tai. Ten booths on-site offered food, free health checks, and interactive games. Notable booths included FOODIES WITH LOVE, FITARCH PHP GROUP SDN BHD, and ALPRO PHARMACY.

Proceeds from registration fees will support MND Malaysia in assisting patients and purchasing medical equipment. Your participation has warmed the hearts of MND patients, providing vital support and hope.
