MND Association reaching out to patients

The Malaysia Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Association is doing its bit to reach out to patients diagnosed with MND in the hope of creating awareness of the rare condition among the community. Fifty-one hospital doctors and staffers attended a one-day seminar which took place at Dewan Pesona of SGH, and they learned how to use the eye-tracker.

In 2014, it would have been impossible to avoid seeing people pouring buckets of ice-cold water over themselves. The “Ice Bucket Challenge” campaign raise hundreds of millions of dollars for a disease that most of us knew little about—motor neurone disease. It’s a disease in which nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord break down, and the individual struggles to walk and speak. Even breathing becomes a challenge. We find out more about motor neuron disease from Prof. Dr Goh Khean Jin, consultant neurologist and Soo Cheong Futt, the Vice Chairman of MND Malaysia.
